Impact of Migrant Remittances on the Economy.
The current study on temporary migration for employment assesses the quantum of migrant remittances and their role in the macro economy on the one hand and the micro economy of the household on the other. The economic aspects include the impact on the foreign exchange reserves, on national savings, and on poverty and income distribution. The impact on the labour market could take the form of withdrawal of informal sector workers in the household opting out of work to take on the role of child care in the absence of a key partner male or female.
Changes to the micro-economy of the household on account of inward remittances are examined primarily in terms of the extent to which they contribute to promoting a stable and sustainable economy at the level of the household.
